Galaxy S8 Active: Things that you can expect.

It’s that time of the year, where a Galaxy Active phone should be released. Well this time it’s getting delayed but we are slowly getting some leaks and rumors about the Galaxy S8 Active and here’s our thoughts about this phone. This blog is an Opinion/discussion. So feel free to provide your input about this device.

For those who are new to the Active line up of Samsung, let us provide a quick intro about it. All the phones in the Galaxy Active line up have a quite rugged construction and these are more durable with the similar functions to the Galaxy S series phones released in the same year. In this blog we will provide a detailed comparison between the Galaxy S6 and S6 Active, Galaxy S7 and S7 Active so that you can understand what you can get in the Galaxy S8 Active.

We have done a complete research on the Galaxy Active series and we have divided our opinions in to Pros and Cons. So let’s start with the Pros.

Galaxy S7 Active and the Galaxy S7

Pros of Galaxy S8 Active:

  1. Durability and Warranty:

Comparing to the previous versions of the Galaxy Active series, you can expect a better durable body in the Galaxy S8 Active. The Galaxy Active phones are water resistant and have a very good glass on the front. However, as they are still glass so they can be broken and starting from the Galaxy S7 Active, warranty on this phone also covers physical and liquid damage. that’s a very good thing about this phone. You can expect a better grip on the Galaxy S8 Active and the overall body construction will help you protect this phone from a drop.

  1. Battery life:

The Galaxy S7 Active has a 4000mAh battery while the Galaxy S7 has a 3000mAh battery. Similarly the Galaxy S6 Active has a 3500mAh battery while the normal Galaxy S6 has a 2550mAh battery. The Galaxy S8 has a 3000mAh battery. So comparing to the previous models you can expect a better battery life (at least 4000mAh) in the Galaxy S8 Active.

Cons of Galaxy S8 Active:

  1. Design:

Galaxy S8 is one of the best phone due to its overall design and with the infinity display this phone looks so futuristic. Though it packs a bigger display still the phone feels very small to the hand due to its design. However, as the Active phones are more rugged so it will have a complete rubber coating on it similar to the Galaxy S7 Active. Hence, this phone might not look or feel that good in terms of design. But it will definitely have a better grip so the chances of breaking or damaging the phone will be less.

  1. Screen size:

The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8” screen whereas the Galaxy S8 Plus has a 6.2” display. So when it comes to the screen size, this phone will be available with only one of these screen sizes and comparing to the previous models of the Galaxy Active series, the users might get the 5.8” display not the bigger variant.

  1. Physical buttons:

Due to the rugged design, the Active series phones always come with physical home button, back and recent apps button. But this goes against the design principle of the Galaxy S8 and its infinity display. So the Galaxy S8 Active might/might not have the physical buttons on the front.

All the Galaxy Active phones have a dedicated Active button which is one of the key feature of this phone. This active button is completely user programmable so the user can assign any app or any function to this button. Now the Galaxy S8 has a dedicated Bixby button which is not programmable by the user. Also from the design point of view, we do not think that Samsung will put both Bixby and Active button in the Galaxy S8 Active. So the users might sacrifice one of these. As Samsung is working so hard for Bixby, it seems like Samsung might kill the Active button.

  1. Availability:

The Galaxy Active devices are AT&T exclusive and they are not available with any other carrier or unlocked version. Also this phone will not be available in India. But if you are planning to get this phone you may purchase this phone from AT&T and unlock it. Samsung/any other smartphone manufacturer does not have the option to provide the unlock code. So you have to unlock the phone with the help of AT&T.

Galaxy S6 Active and the Galaxy S6

So these are our thoughts on the upcoming Galaxy S8 Active. All other hardware and software features of this phone will be the same as that of the Galaxy S8. If you are looking for this phone, we hope that you have got some important points to think on.
