On February 3, 2017 we have posted an article about Instagram is working on a new feature called “Instagram galleries”. Back then it was only available for some of the Beta testers. Now this feature is available for everyone. Starting from February 23, 2017 anyone can share up to 10 photos and videos in one post.
With this new update, you can post multiple photos and videos (up to 10 items) on a single Instagram post. So if you are struggling in selecting the best picture or the best selfie, you don’t have to think much. Now you can share all at once and swipe through to see them all.
When uploading to your feed, now you will see a new icon to select multiple photo and videos. You can randomly select and rearrange them later. You can also add different filters to each photo and video, also you can edit them separately. On your feed, there will be an icon on the top right corner of the “Gallery post” which will let you know that the post contains multiple photos or videos. With this new feature, #InstagramGallery is now trending and Instagrammers have already started sharing their galleries.
Unlike “Stories”, Instagram gallery is completely unique feature for Instagram platform and also there are certain advantages and disadvantages present in this feature.
- share multiple photos and videos(up to 10).
- promote the Gallery (only if all the photos and videos are in high resolution).
- save the Galleries just like normal posts.
- Share them on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Whatsapp, Messenger and externally share the Gallery through link.
- With this new feature, you are back to the #squarepost world. In a gallery you can only share the photos and videos in square format.
- Insight option is still not available.(**)
- You can not like the photos and videos individually.
- You can not tag anyone in the pictures. (*)
What’s the catch?
If you are thinking, Instagram just gave one more cool feature not to leave the platform you are totally wrong. After Facebook acquired Instagram, we have seen a dramatic changes in the platform. Some of them are really good (i.e. light interface, features like Stories, Boomerang, Business page, Save option etc ). However, there is one really bad thing that is killing this photo sharing platform and its “Ads”. Ads are everywhere in Instagram. You can find them in “Home”, “Explore”, “Notification panel” and the recently introduced feature “Stories”. Instagram is really looking for new rooms for ads. They might put ads in your Gallery in future.
