Everything about Samsungs new Infinity Display.

Samsung has recently launched their flagships of the year; Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus which are the best looking phone ever. With this new design language, these phones completely look and feel futuristic. Samsung says we always bring the latest and greatest features to our users. However, this time they have just created a new era for smartphone, which will change the way you think about a smartphone and what a smartphone can do.

The Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus are definitely packed with a lot of features. But, the major attraction of these phones is the “Infinity display”. Even the name of the display sounds so cool. Starting from Galaxy Note Edge, Samsung is using curved displays in several Galaxy devices. Also Samsung has improved the functionality and design of the Edge display by the course of time. You can see and compare the difference in the Edge display of the Galaxy Edge phones.

This new design of display helps the Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus to go completely bezel less. The Infinity Display flows seamlessly over the edges and the user can comfortably hold the device and enjoy the smooth, uninterrupted screen of the phone. Samsung says “You’ll immediately notice the comfortable grip of the smooth curves in your hand, which allow you to hold the device easily”. The Edge display in these new devices also provide the “Edge screen shortcuts” that we have seen in the earlier Galaxy Edge devices.

Coming to the resolution and display property of the Infinity display, you must agree that these displays are huge, even though the overall size of the device is compact and small. The Galaxy S8 has a 5.8”, 570 ppi display and the Galaxy S8 Plus has a 6.2” , 529 ppi display. The default resolution of the phone is set to “Full HD+” which you will get right out of the box. But you have the option to change the resolution to “Quad HD+” and “WQHD+” in the settings.

With larger screen size like 5.8” and 6.2” you can easily perform multitasking in these devices. The Infinity display also has the AOD (Always On Display) function which also seamlessly merges with the lock screen of the phone where you can hardly identify the transition from AOD to lock screen. Also the display has some gesture control functions such as

  1. Swipe right to unlock the phone.
  2.   Swipe up to see all the apps.

This probably is the most coolest feature of the Infinity Display. As there is no physical home button in the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus, there is an on screen home button which works and gives the same haptic feedback like a physical home button. Also now the other on screen buttons such as back button and the recent app buttons are interchangeable. So the user can fully customize the look and feel of their phone.
